The Department of Physics and Meteorology, IIT Kharagpur has been around since the birth of the Insitute in 1951. Over the years, it has grown into a full--fledged Department with numerous academic and research activities. The Department is primarily housed in the central part of the Institute Main building occupying three floors. The Departmental personnel includes 29 faculty members, 25 technical and supporting staff, 58 research scholars and around 130 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
